Crosscurrent started as a vision of Christian community, formed from a deep-rooted desire to build a church where people could explore Christian faith in the context of a community devoted to God and committed to one another.

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2: 42-47

Vision spurred action, and in 2002 Jason and Aimee Roberts moved to Virginia Beach with their four children to pursue their dream of planting a church.

What would it look like?

Crosscurrent would be missional in nature. We would foster a community that would get involved in local culture and build relationships that would enable a loving communication of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We’d be a people that would run through life together—sharing meals, caring for one another and having fun while developing our faith and impacting the world around us. Ultimately, we were designed to be a community that would bring pleasure and attention to the one true God.

Who would come? On September 22, 2002 nine adults and four kids met in the Roberts’ living room—sharing in the vision and laying the foundation to plant a missional, Christ-centered Virginia Beach church.  Almost five years later, we continue to grow, still passionately committed to our vision: to be a spiritually maturing community that glorifies God while impacting the world with the Gospel.  The way we try to faithfully live this out is through our five core values: the Word, Prayer, Worship, Life Together and Missional Community.
